Joe Burger Park

  •  Joe Burger Park is located at 1251 E. Greenbriar Rd, at the corner of Blackland Road and Greenbriar Road next to Harry H Herndon Elementary School. 
  • The completion date is expected in late October 2022.
  • Utilities have been established.
  • Grading earthwork continues.
  • Paving for the parking lot has begun. 
  • The pond has been formed at the Southeast corner and is holding water. 
  • The basketball and tennis/pickleball courts have been formed. Backboards will be installed within a few weeks.  
  • Thanks to a Local Park Grant awarded by Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, a basketball court and tennis/pickleball court were added to the scope of the project.

Woodcreek Blvd. Extension 

  • On Monday, May 2, 2022, the Fate City Council approved acceptance of a right-of-way dedication, a public drainage easement, a public sanitary sewer easement, and a franchise utility easement to facilitate the construction of the Woodcreek Boulevard extension from the MK&T rail line to the westbound I-30 service road.
  • On April 18, 2022 the Fate City Council approved the construction and maintenance agreement with Dallas, Garland, & Northeastern Railroad (DGNO) regarding crossing improvements. The agreement has been sent to DGNO for final execution.
  • Once the agreement has been executed, the Union Pacific (UP) permit will be obtained. This is the last item for the city to obtain to move forward with engineering plans submission, bid, contract award, and construction.
  • Kimley Horn has completed the photometric plans.  
  • The total cost of the railroad crossing construction agreement is approximately $800,000.
  • Coordination for the lighting on this street has begun and a contract is being prepared with Oncor. 
  • Once bids are awarded, the construction timeline for this project is expected to take 7-8 months.

Turn lanes at I-30 & FM 551

Turn lanes at I-30 & FM 551 

  • The project will include two different phases:
    1. Phase 1 - Restriping the existing roadway from Specs (North FM551) to Chamberlin Dr./Williamsburg Pkwy. (South FM 551)
    2. Phase 2 - Adding capacity to the intersection by adding turn lanes on three of the four corners of FM 551 to Interstate 30.
  • Kimley-Horn completed the survey using a drone, to avoid traffic interruptions at the intersection at the FM551 & IH30 for both phases of the project.   
  • Kimley-Horn (KH), the design engineering firm, is producing a restriping plan for phase 1. 
  • Once completed, the restriping plans will be presented to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for approval for phase 1. 

  • Once the contract for phase 2 (adding turning lanes) is approved, engineering plans will be completed in approximately 6-8 weeks. 

  • The design and construction of the restriping project is approximately $300,000.

Water Tower Road North/South 

  • LJA Engineering submitted a full set of civil engineering plans on March 15, 2022, for to city staff to review.
  • On April 7, 2022, city staff provided comments to the LJA Engineering.
  • A resubmittal of the plans is expected by May 17, 2022.
  • Coordination for the lighting on this street began with Farmers Electric. 
  • Turn lanes concepts, from the water tower RD to I30 frontage road were submitted to TXDOT for approval.

Riding Club East/Railroad Crossing

Riding Club East/Railroad Crossing 

  • The appraisal has been completed for the property acquisition needed to relinquish two the railroad crossings.  This is a required action to gain one crossing for the Woodcreek Blvd. extension.
  • Final negotiations for the property needed for the road construction will be completed before May 13, 2022. 
  • 60% of the engineering design plans have been completed. Kimley-Horn, the engineering design firm, has been given the green light to continue the design to 100%.

  • The survey was completed and given to the Kimley-Horn design engineers.
  • The survey is being prepared for the appraisal of the property.
  • Kimley-Horn, the engineering design firm, has been given the green light to continue the design to 100%. 
  • The road design will match Gettysburg Blvd. through the Edgewater subdivision.

Project Management & Inspection 

  • All projects have successfully moved to the design phase. Water Tower Road has moved into the review process. 

Contingency

  •  10% of the bond proceeds are held for contingency expenses.  None have been tapped yet, but we are greatly concerned about rising inflation rates.

Cost of Bond Issuance 

  • The City has paid about $200,557 as part of the debt sale process.
