Solicitors Information

A Solicitor's Permit is required for peddlers and solicitors- including door-to-door sales and mobile vendors per the City of Fate Code of Ordinances. 

As long as there is no contact with the property owners, a permit is not required to leave handbills.

Solicitor Rules and Regulations

  • All Solicitors must have a permit from the City of Fate
  • All Solicitors must wear a photo identification badge issued by the City of Fate
  • Hours Monday - Saturday 9:00AM - 8:30PM   
  • Solicitation is prohibited in the City of Fate on Sunday or any federally designated holiday
  • It is prohibited to solicit at any residence or building which has posted a no peddling or solicitor sign
  • It is prohibited to obstruct or impede the passage of a pedestrian or vehicle 

What activities are not considered soliciting and do not require a permit?

  • Leaving handbills on doorknobs or under residential or commercial floor-mats
  • Religious organizations exclusively for the distribution of literature and other items for the purpose of proselytizing, provided that no fees are charged and no donations are solicited
  • Anonymous political speech
  • Persons under the age of 18 engaged in fundraising activities for a non profit organization using all profits for young people's activities or donating all profits to charities other than a sponsoring organization

What are some tips for dealing with door-to-door solicitors?

  • If the solicitor does not go away peacefully after you ask, call the police non-emergency line at (972) 771-7724 
  • Follow identity theft prevention guidelines by never giving your social security number, credit card information or checks to anyone who solicits you and you cannot verify they legitimately represent an organization or charity

What do I need to become a solicitor?

Each Permit shall expire six months from issuance
  • Complete Application and Checklist  
  • $35.00 Review Fee 
  • Valid form of ID for all solicitors working in the city 
  • Authorization for background check
  • Color photographs of each solicitor working in the city
  • All fees must be paid before a permit will be issued
